Step 1 of 3

Depression can be compared to feeling sad but it is not the same. Everyone can feel upset about their day. The difference is sadness and other unpleasant emotions can often pass through the mind and disappear but depression tends to last anywhere from weeks. Depression can negatively impact your day-to-day life at home, work or school.

The World Health Organisation recognises depression as common and a leading cause of disability worldwide.

Depression can occur at any age but is more common in your 20's and 30's.

A study in 2018 found depression can be episodic and people can recover within 12 months. There is often a risk of a further depressive episode but this can be managed if treated appropriately.
