ABOUT OBESITY
The Bucket analogy
Obese people can be looked upon as fat, lazy and unfit. However, research has proven genetics also play a key role in our weight.
Now, let’s say your genetics determines the size of your bucket i.e. someone who has more fortunate genetics has a larger bucket. This can explain why two people who live the exact same lifestyle have different weights. If you imagine filling the buckets with the same amount of water (lifestyle) unfortunately the person with the smaller bucket will overflow faster and gain weight.
The message is that it may be easier for you to gain weight and you will need to work harder to lose it.

Below are some resources we find helpful in understanding obesity:
1) Reading material: https://www.saxenda.co.uk/content/dam/nnsites/saxenda-co-uk/en/public/Novo_Nordisk_General_Public_Obesity_Awareness_Leaflet.pdf.

You may have read GLP-1s has caused thyroid cancer. In the clinical trials a rodent was found to have thyroid cancer and as a result it is required to be published. However, there has not been any human cases during the trials using Saxenda or the 2 million users after the trial.
Using injections for the first time can be daunting and you are not alone if you are feeling like this. We will provide training for you to self-administer until you feel confident.
GLP-1 injections are to be administered subcutaneously. This means under your skin in your stomach area (abdomen), upper leg (thigh), or upper arm. Do not inject into a vein or muscle.
After you have stopped using the medication you can gain the weight back again. For this reason, we recommend for you to commit to a 12 month programme. A recent research study published found patients on a 12 month weight loss programme still had a positive effect after 5 years from starting the programme.
If you have any concerns using the injection due to your medical history, previously failed interventions or any other reason – we can help! We speak to the manufacturers regularly who have the data for everything regarding the safety of the medication.
